Description

Spotting signs of concern

In this course we focus on SPOT, the first part of our SNAPS process. Poor mental health and mental illness involve significant changes in how a person thinks, feels (emotionally and physically), and/or behaves.

This course will help you to understand the changes to be concerned about, and how to spot them.

Objectives

Learning goals across the course:

  • Recognise the signs of concern to look out for
  • Identify your role in looking after others
  • Describe the two core models for spotting signs of concern: Te Whare Tapa Whā, and the Cognitive-Behavioural Model
  • Demonstrate the key skill of knowing when to be concerned
  • Clarify where to go for more information on mental illness
